Boston Music Awards 2011

Review of the Boston Music Awards 2011 by Jake Brennan, Brenburg Media

The 2011 Boston Music Awards were held on Sunday November 20 at the Liberty Hotel in Boston. Fifteen different artists performed in 5 separate venues throughout the 5 Star Hotel for an estimated 1300 attendees from the local music industry and community.

Best Rock Artist of the Year award winners, Viva Viva turned in a much raved about and critically acclaimed performance in the Liberty Ballroom to a packed audience as did Shea Rose who prominently announced her arrival on the local scene after nabbing the Best R&B/Urban Contemporary Artist of the Year award. For a complete list of winners, go to the 2011 Boston Music Awards' winners page.

Elsewhere, attendees were entertained by a variety of performers who aptly demonstrated the eclecticism of the Boston music scene. From Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band to the Brazilian rhythms of Bloco AfroBrazil to the psychedelic sounds of MMOSS to the synth pop of Gentlemen Hall and hardcore country honk from Roy Sludge, no genre was left out in the cold.

Daddy's Junky Music founder, Fred Bramante was honored as this year's Unsung Hero while the most iconic band to come out of Boston in the last 20 years, the Dropkick Murphys was introduced by local hometown hero and subject of the Academy Award Nominated film, The Fighter, Irish Mickey Ward, to accept the Artist of the Year award.
