The Boston Music Awards is the premier music event in New England, and honors its best and brightest performers while raising money for music charities.
The Boston Music Awards are comprised of 25 categories, providing an equal opportunity for both major label and independent artists. The Boston Music Awards ceremony is designed to honor artists from a very specific market. The BMA has generalized categories that often house a very eclectic group of nominees.
The Boston Music Awards uses genre specific categories are intended to represent the wide range of music befitting to the limitation of genre labeling. Artists are nominated by an 80+ person committee comprised of local radio personality, press, artist managers, labels, talent buyers, publicists and agents. Winners of the Boston Music Awards are determined by a BMA academy vote comprised of 450 members combined with a public vote. The Boston Music Awards academy vote are weighted 2/3 versus 1/3 for the public. The 2007 Boston Music Awards collected 190,000 online votes from the public.

The Boston Music Awards have revamped their nominating and voting to include over 150 active participants in all genres of the music community in New England. The Academy includes venue owners, booking agents, managers, writers/bloggers, DJs, program directors, music business owners, distributors, retailers, producers, publicists and others. We will continue to try to update and expand this list to ensure that it is truly representative of people who have their finger on the pulse of ALL music genres in Boston. The Boston Music Awards office gets nomination requests throughout the year, which they pass on to the nominating committee.

The Boston Music Awards also strives to generate regional and national exposure for nominated and winning artists.
Since 2003, any proceeds from the Boston Music Awards have gone to various music charities throughout New England. the Boston Music Awards have funded music scholarships to Berklee, music education programs in schools, etc. In 2008, the Boston Music Awards aligned with Music Drives Us. For the past few years the money to put on the Boston Music Awards and fund their charitable efforts have been raised exclusively through sponsorship and partnerships.
The proceeds from the Boston Music Awards benefit the Music Drives Us Foundation, a non-profit that provides funding for music education programs, music therapy programs and helps to keep music in our schools, assisted living centers and all segments of society for all age groups.
