In 2005, Southeastern Massachusetts Arts Collaborative (SMARTS) created The World Beat Discovery Project to provide children in its eight member districts with a music enrichment program through in-school assemblies and an introduction world beat/percussion class. SMARTS now seeks to create an after-school component that offers children more in-depth music education and training in world beat percussion.

SMARTS was awarded $4,000 for instruction and instruments for an After-School World Beat Percussion Program.
