For the Sake of the Song

Presenting Neil Young's Harvest May 18, 2011 at The Middle East Upstairs

Local concert series For the Sake of the Song will bring together an all star cast of local folk and roots musicians to perform Neil Young's classic album Harvest in its entirety at the Middle East Upstairs on Wednesday May 18th. In addition to providing new takes on classics like "Heart of Gold" and "Old Man" the concert will benefit the New England non-profit Music Drives Us. Doors open at 8:00pm (Show at 8:30pm) and tickets are $10 at the door, or available online at ticket web.

This special concert, which will feature local performers Sarah Blacker, Danielle Miraglia, Autumn Hollow Band, James Houlahan, Patrick Coman, and Garlic & Moonshine, is the second edition of For the Sake of the Song’s semi-annual charity showcase. Following the success of the inaugural Blood on the Tracks performance, which raised money for the New England chapter of the National MS Society, founder Patrick Coman realized the opportunity to give back to the local community while raising the profile of the Boston’s burgeoning Americana scene. Says Coman, "As most people know, musicians don’t always have much to give in terms of money, but what I realized after putting the first show together is that artists here are really eager to use their abilities to support a good cause. I knew that we’d have to make these events a regular thing because not only are they a blast, but there are just so many great local organizations that we’d love to support."

The beneficiary of the May 18th performance, The Music Drives Us Foundation, is a New England non-profit foundation supplying grants for music programs to effect positive changes for people in need. The Foundation seeks out organizations and individuals that are interested in using music as a tool for all segments of society and for all age groups.
