On Wednesday, April 25th, Music Drives Us visited Blues SchoolHouse in Boston, MA! We are thrilled to announce that we are powering the production and performance of Blues SchoolHouse through 2021. Our friends Ken Casey and Tim Brennan from the Dropkick Murphys and Claddagh Fund, joined us for this special visit.
Blue SchoolHouse is a legacy program of House of Blues Music Forward Foundation. This program traces the history of the blues from its roots in African musical traditions to its emergence as an American musical form and through its influence on other genres. The program demonstrates how music is a tool for communication and a driver of social change through reflection of the human experience. The program praises the component that music plays in American culture, and the integral role music plays in personal, family, and community life.
We would like to thank the Dropkick Murphys and their foundation, the Claddagh Fund, for their support of Music Drives Us. In December 2017, the Dropkick Murphys hosted the Murphys Boxing Christmas Party at Plainrige Park and Casino with proceeds benefitting the Claddagh Fund and Music Drives Us. The funds raised from that evening have been used to support Blues School House! The Claddagh Fund and MDU both share in our missions to provide opportunities and experiences for underserved communities throughout Massachusetts.
During our visit, we got a glimpse of what the band performs for visiting students. The Blues SchoolHouse Band performs for over 5,000 Boston Public Schools student each year, with many children experiencing live music at the House of Blues for the first time!
We're so happy to be supporting such a wonderful program!
